Objectives:
(i) Demonstrate knowledge of the chronology, narrative, major events,personalities and turning points of the History of India
(ii) Provide multi-causal explanations of major historical developments basedon a contextualized analysis of Modern World History.
(iii) Help to grow national and international understanding about history
History of the Department:
Established in the academic year 1983-84, the Department of History was one of the founding department of the Govt. Degree College, Rampachodavaram. It is having approximately 113 students. Every year, History outgoing students got B.Ed and P.G entrance test ranks. HEP programme was introduced in 1983 with Telugu medium. History cluster system was introduced in 2017-2018. The Department of History at Government Degree College, Rampachodavaram, has evolved significantly since its inception, recently introducing a dedicated major in history to accommodate growing interest in the discipline. In 2023, the college formally established the major system for History with an initial intake capacity of 40 students. Currently, there are 40 students enrolled in the first year of the history major, and 21 students in the second year. Meanwhile, 52 third-year students are enrolled in the History, Economics, and Political Science (HEP) combination.The department emphasizes a well-rounded educational approach, organizing a variety of activities aimed at enhancing both academic and personal development. Among these initiatives are student seminars, quizzes, guest lectures, and peer-learning sessions, all of which encourage students to engage deeply with historical content and improve their critical thinking and public speaking skills. Project work is also integrated into the curriculum, allowing students to conduct research, work collaboratively, and present their findings, thereby gaining hands-on experience in historical inquiry and analysis.These educational practices contribute to the overall development of students, equipping them with a deeper understanding of history and essential skills in research, analysis, and communication. The department’s efforts to create a stimulating academic environment underline its commitment to fostering an engaging and supportive learning community. A National webinar was also conducted in the month of January 22,2022.
